  Nous avons passé fin juillet 2013 une nuit au Haras.
  Une très jolie chambre dans une maison meublée avec beaucoup de goût, au calme, en présence d’hôtes très chaleureux, un petit déjeuner composé de délicieux produits locaux !
  En bref, un très bon séjour !
  Merci à Christine et Jean-Louis pour leur acceuil et leur gentillesse !

  Nous avons passé une nuit dans cette charmante chambre d’hôte un accueil plus que chaleureux, une maison décorée avec beaucoup de goût qui donne envie d’y rester, un petit déjeuner parfait avec des produits locaux et fait maison, un endroit calme et reposant des chevaux magnifiques et la passion des propriétaires pour leur élevage.Nous y retournerons surement merci à Christine et Jean louis pour ce moment convivial et familial.

  "Absolument charmant- un séjour parfait"

  Nous sommes tombés sur cet endroit par hasard sur Trip Advisor, et nous avons décidé de l’essayer pour une nuit. J’aurais bien voulu rester plus longtemps ! Merveilleusement calme et paisible de la campagne. Les hôtes étaient *** - sympa, serviable, recommander un restaurant local, et donc, donc. Le petit-déjeuner sur la terrasse était merveilleux avec du pain fait maison,...

  “A great place to live in solitude, in nature and with comfort”
  

  We decided to stay at this hotel on a trip from Collioure in Saint-Jean-de-Luz to break up a trip for two stages, making it less tiring for our baby. We arrived late in the evening and the owner was leaving early in the morning with a group of tourists on horseback to hiking in the Pyrenees. We met a neighbor and showed the house. Since there were no other guests, we have at our disposal was the whole cottage - a cozy living room with fireplace and kitchen with a long table. Despite the fact that the place is far away from civilization, in the house of a great modern plumbing in the shower and toilets, fresh towels, linen and very clean.
  The atmosphere in the room and the living room is very cozy, with a soul. Before booking, I watched the video and photos of the hotel, but in reality it looks even better. Our room had a balcony and a view of the field, where they fed the remaining horses, and in the distance we could see the mountains.
  The owner, Jean-Louis, came to us late last night, we talked nicely - he told me that he would return around 12 am and tell you more about horses. Unfortunately, we did not have time to wait for his return, as our little boy started to fall asleep and we decided to go, so he slept on the road.
  We would love to stay in this hotel for a few days in nature - to take a break from the hustle and bustle of big cities.

  “Sunsets over the Pyrenees and Le Tour de France”

  Very warm welcome, lovely breakfasts, very helpful. Charming suite of rooms. The area is very peaceful, fantastic mountains without the crowds the Alps attracts. The local towns, St Girons and St Lizier, were an unexpected delight. If I known how wonderful it was I would have stayed longer.

  “Platsen i mitt hjärta”
  

  På denna underbara plats har jag funnit mina två fantastiska meréns hästar som nu bor med mig i Sverige. Ett liten paradis med två varma och hjälpsamma ägare, Christine och Jean-Louis Savignol. De bedriver avel av merénshästar samt ett pensionat på en vacker gammal släktgård med rötter från 1600-talet, där alla rummen är vackert och varsamt inredda av Christine. De flesta rummen har utsikt över Pyrenéerna och har man tur så strosar det svarta merénshästar i hagen nedanför. Annars strosar hästarna på de vackra fälten i närheten eller uppe i Pyrenéerna på sommarhalvåret. Vissa helger kan man anmäla sig till speciella teman med antingen gårdsysslor (t ex tillverkning av gåslever eller marmelader) eller hästaktiviter (t ex föra flocken upp och ner till sommarbetet eller kurs i Centrerad Ridning). Deras filosofi är att försöka göra allt med så lite inverkan på naturen som möjligt och de är ekologiskt certifierade. Detta genomsyrar även deras uppfödning av hästar vilka lever ett mycket fritt liv med tidig positiv invänjning vid människor så att de senare är enkla att hantera, rida och köra. Tillsammans med det fria livet i bergen blir det trygga och lugna hästar. Alla metoder och utrustning används med stor respekt för den individuella hästen. Med andra ord ett riktigt paradis även för hästar.

  The hosts are superb people. Helpful, friendly, kind. Wish we could have stayed in the area longer.
  Nice features of the place and the area include:rustic but creative interior decorating, fabulous mountains, beautiful horses, near the route of the Tour de France (2013), even an attractive line of apparel available.

  We stayed at Haras Picard du Sant for 5 nights and very much enjoyed our stay. We had a two bedroom ’apartment’, which was a nice surprise as we thought we had simply booked two bedrooms (one for us, one for our two children). Our apartment had two bathrooms, a very well stocked kitchen/dining area, a comfortable living area and a lovely deck overlooking the mountains and with a couple of horses in the paddock in front, which of course enthralled my children !

  The accommodation itself is comfortable and a bit quirky in its furnishings - the waterbed in our room was unexpected but led to very good nights’ sleep (also helped by the quiet and dark in the morning !). Both bedrooms had loft rooms with the ability to sleep an additional two people as well - at one point some friends were going to stay with us and we could easily have fitted in their 4 person family in one room/loft while we moved our family into the other. A word of warning - there were a lot of steep (and creaky !) stairs which made it a little more difficult with a one year old (plus the deck had open railings...).

  The breakfast provided was simple - a loaf of bread, homemade jam and butter, plus cornflakes and milk. Adequate.

  Location is in the foothills of the Pyrenees, about 15 mins drive from St Girons, about an hour’s drive to Foix. Reasonably convenient but if you intended to do a lot in the mountains without having to drive as much you may want to stay on the other side of St Girons.

  Jean Louis is very hospitable and enthusiastic about the area and his horses. He took us to see the foals in another paddock on the farm, which my girls loved.

  I would like to come back and participate in some of the activities offered - the transhumance (moving the horses from the mountains back to the farm) sounds amazing ! A bit difficult to do though with young children.

  Excellent stay and hospitality, wonderful location in the countryside and gorgeous horses ! I stayed in the main house - wonderful attic conversion with heaps of space and bathroom. The owners were happy to help out with suggestions of places to visit and eat. Would definitely recommend this little B&B.

  Candidate a l’achat d’un mérens

  Trois jours au Haras Picad du Sant dans l’optique d’y acheter un cheval. Beaucoup de kilomètres parcourus mais nous ne regrettons pas... L’approche est complètement différente des marchands de chevaux ou d’autres éleveurs. Jean-Louis et Christine s’assurent que leurs chevaux partent entre de bonnes mains et sont entièrement disponibles pour vous conseiller. On voit qu’ils ont l’amour et le respect de leur mérens et qu’ils s’ajustent au caractère de chacun.

  Quel accueil aussi ! Reçus comme des amis, dans une atmosphère décontractée. Ici au moins, on vous dit tout sur les chevaux que l’on vous propose : le travail à faire, leur caractère et les éventuels problèmes de santé qu’ils ont pu avoir.
  On participe activement auprès des chevaux. On les cherche au champ, on les panse, on les travaille à pied et enfin on les monte en extérieur, ce qui permet de juger du caractère et de la connexion de chacun. Cela permet également de se retrouver confronté à des "situations problèmes" et à ce moment-là, Jean-Louis conseille sur les solutions adéquates, avec douceur et fermeté, toujours dans le souci de respecter le cheval. On ne se sent pas seul dans le choix d’acquérir un cheval chez eux et cela nous permet d’avoir, avant l’achat, des solutions concrètes pour faire face à toutes les situations que l’on peut rencontrer en étant propriétaire. Très intéressant de savoir également quels exercices réaliser avec son mérens pour garder tout le travail qui a été fait jusqu’ici pour le monter sans mors, et réussir à gagner de plus en plus en finesse avec la suggestion.
  L’éthologie a été pour moi une découverte et j’ai été convaincue. (J’en profite pour remercier aussi Benjamine pour tous ses bons conseils !)

  Ce voyage nous a aussi permis de réaliser que nous devions trouver une seconde pâture pour l’hiver avec un compagnon : il n’est pas envisageable de laisser, ne serait-ce que pour 4 mois, un mérens au box sans congénère ! Nous devrons donc solutionner ce problème avant de faire l’acquisition d’un mérens afin de l’accueillir dans les meilleures conditions : lui proposer une vie au pré tout au long de l’année, avec d’autres chevaux, pour son bien-être et sa vie sociale. C’est ce que Jean-Louis et Christine offre à leurs chevaux et c’est ce qui contribue à leur bonheur.
